Remember "Gremlins"? The third installment of the cult horror film is awaiting Spielberg's approval.

The recent Manchester Comic-Con brought a lot of interesting news from the world of film. One of them concerns the sequel to the horror comedy "Gremlins." As actor Zach Galligan, who plays Billy Peltzer in the cult classic Gremlins films, revealed during the convention, the script for the third installment is ready and awaiting Steven Spielberg's approval.

The 1984 film "Despicable Me" has become a classic. We meet the creatures that wreak havoc on the city through Billy Peltzer and his friend Gizmo . This gentle creature is utterly endearing—the kind of friend every child longs to have. Unfortunately, Gizmo has a flaw. First, he must avoid light, cannot be fed after midnight, and upon contact with even the smallest amount of water, he hatches into vicious Gremlins. The horror film, which won several Saturn Awards, received a sequel in 1990.

Now the fate of the third installment of the film is in the balance, with the script already completed, Zach Galligan revealed. During Comic-Con, the actor revealed that the script is sitting on Steven Spielberg's desk, waiting for his approval.

"After 35 years, they've created a script. Warner Bros. is extremely interested in making it happen. Apparently, they're waiting for Mr. Spielberg to read it and approve it," the actor said, as quoted by Games Radar.

Spielberg, through Amblin Entertainment , executive produced the first two Gremlins films. Galligan credits Warner Bros.' enthusiasm for the film to the resounding success of "Beetlejuice," the sequel to "Beetlejuice." The film demonstrated the value of investing in iconic franchises from the 1980s.
